Zion.. The Virgin River has carved through native sandstone to create the incredible scenery found in Zion Canyon. The river itself now serves as a natural corridor for exploring the park. We only had one afternoon here and chose to hike the Lower, Middle and Upper Emerald Pools Trails adjacent to Zion Lodge. Maybe four miles of trail works it's way upward past cliffs and ledges stained by eons of water flow from above. Our goal: The Upper Pool at the base of the vertical face of Castle Dome. We were fascinated by the light that played in the trees and the fire in the color of the sandstone face of the canyon. This place is another week at least.. We will return.
